The elderly driver was traveling southbound when his vehicle veered onto the shoulder and collided with a parked box truck. Despite life-saving efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries.
Details of the Incident
The fatal crash took place on Monday around 1 p.m. near the 8200 South exit on southbound Interstate 15. According to the Utah Highway Patrol, traffic was slowing in the area due to a box truck that had pulled over onto the right shoulder.
The 91-year-old driver, operating a white Kia Forte, reportedly drove onto the shoulder and rear-ended the stationary box truck. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and life-saving measures were administered. The driver was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, but later passed away from his injuries.
Aftermath and Investigation
The driver of the box truck was unharmed in the collision. The incident led to the temporary closure of the right two lanes of I-15 as authorities investigated and cleared the scene. The Utah Highway Patrol has stated that the crash is currently under investigation.
